Pollinator Power

Pollinator Power is a one-page website designed for an assignment where we were required to pick a societal topic about which we would like to raise social awareness. The finished one page website needed to be responsive to desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. We were also asked to have two tasks within our websites for users to complete. The project required the integration of interactive components to enhance user engagement and learning.

I chose the topic of the decline of bee populations. I selected this topic so I could work with an environmental issue, and this topic specifically is not talked about enough and when it is, it’s often brushed off. This is an important issue, because bees are pollinators for nearly 75% of flowering plants and over 35% of global food crops. Without pollination from bees many important crops would decline in production, leading to food shortages and higher prices.

The first task I chose to create for this website is a quiz about why bee population importance and what’s harming it, based off of information throughout the website to encourage view the site actively. The second task the website is a newsletter sign up for users to stay informed on what is happening without having to revist the site or research more. The site presents key facts about pollinators, the challenges they face, and actions individuals can take to help. The site uses interactivity and digital illustration to support information that informs the viewer of facts about the importance of bees/pollinators and is built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
